Discover Namur

Namur, Walloon capital

Namur is an open, central city with a multitude of links to Europe. Its strategic position at the crossroads of influences, its heritage, its relief and its population are all assets that make it the Capital of Wallonia.

Discover Namur

The city of Namur is a tourist jewel that has grown up with its feet in the water, from the Aduatics through the Romans to the present day. A jewel of history, set at the confluence of rivers. The city's rich heritage, with its ancient mansions, cathedral, museums, churches, theater, belfry, squares and vestiges, bears witness to the contrasting past of a bourgeois city in the shadow of its Citadel. The Citadelle, recognized as an exceptional heritage site by the Walloon Region, is a reminder of several centuries of military architecture and strategic greed. Napoleon once called it "the termite mound of Europe".
In 1986, Namur became the capital of Wallonia. Today, it is the seat of the Walloon Parliament and Government, as well as ministerial offices and the regional administration.
